THE SILENT REAPER.
Mrs. John Strayer died on Tuesday of last week, July 28, at her home in Mason City after an illness of eighteen months from pernicious anaemia{sic} Mrs. Strayer’s maiden name as Lucy Catherine Sheetz and she was a sister of Aaron Sheetz and Mrs. Mary Ruffridge of Freeport. She was born in Decorah in 1855. In 1875 she was married to John A. Strayer. Thirty five years ago they moved to Mason City where the family home has since been. The Mason City Globe-Gazette, from which we glean the above facts, speaks in glowing terms of the many excellent qualities of Mrs. Strayer and refers to her as one of Mason City’s dearest and best beloved women. Besides giving a full measure of devotion to her family she found time to be active in the work of the Congregational church of which she was a member, as well as the Eastern Star. Beside her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Geo. W. Hill of Mason City, and her son Arthur J. Strayer of El Paso, her brother and sister in Freeport, and another sister, Mrs. Ella Skinner of Forest City. The funeral was held Thursday last and interment was made at Elmwood cemetery, Mason City.
Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she was born Aug. 16, 1855.
