Karen I. Jermeland, 65, of Decorah, Iowa died Sunday, August 18, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota surrounded by her family.

Karen was born February 1, 1959, in Decorah, Iowa to Curtis and Martha (Sollien) Rude. She grew up north of Decorah where she attended and graduated from the North Winneshiek School. She had worked at several places in the Decorah area including Montgomery Wards, Eastern Star Home, Nob Hill Supper Club, and Aase Haugen Home. On August 9, 1990, she was united in marriage to Joel Jermeland. She enjoyed flowers and the garden, trips to the Depot and Goodwill, but her most joy came from being a mom.

Karen is survived by her husband Joel of Decorah; their son, Chase (Shelby) Jermeland of Decorah; a sister Deb (Dean) Stortz of Mabel, Minnesota; brothers and sisters-in-law Loren Wilkins, Becky and Don Kelly, Dave and Bev Jermeland, and Keith and Mary Hennig; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Martha; a sister Cathy Wilkins, a brother-in-law Mark Jermeland; a nephew Justin Wilkins; and three great nephews, Jonathan Zweibohmer, Anthony Schierholz, and Anthony Williams.

Funeral services will be 11 am, Monday, August 26th at the Highland Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. The interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m., Sunday, August 25th at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
