Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Peck, Mrs. Joe Sjorah and son Leo of Des Moines, Chas. and Grant Birdsell of Bruce, Wis., and Lewis Woolsey and wife of Castalia were called here last week by the death of Isaac Birdsell.

Iaaac Birdsell was born at Port Dove, Ontario, Canada, Aug 10, 1834, where he resided with his parents until he reached the age of 17 years, when he and his older brother William left their Canadian home and came to Iowa, selected a location, and in the call{sic} of the same year, 1851, the parents, with a large family of boys, followed and the results of the early pioneering was the acquirement of a large tract of this beautiful prairie land by the Birdsell family. The father, with the assistance of the sons built a crude house on the same site where Eugene Birdsell now resides. Oct. 8th, 1858, at the age of 24, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Gormon. To this union six children were born, two boys and four girls, all of whom survive. In the winter of 1892 Mr. Birdsell accepted Christ as his Savior and joined the United Brethren church and held steadfast to his faith until the time of his death. In the spring of 1895 Mr. and Mrs. Birdsell moved to Frankville to enjoy their home in a retired way, but in a little more than one year Mrs. Birdsell was summoned to her eternal rest on June 1st, 1896. August 7, 1901, Mr. Birdsell was married again to Miss Emma Anderson and located in his home at Frankville, where he resided until the time of his death. About two years ago he was stricken with Bright’s disease and has been a constant and patient sufferer, until the death angel called him to his reward. He passed away at 11 o’clock Jan. 15th 1914. His loss is mourned by his wife and the entire family of children, who were all present at the funeral,--Mrs. Teressa Woolsey of Castalia, Mrs. Ida Moose, Mrs. Kate Shattuck of this place, Mrs. Minnie Peck of Des Moines, Charley and Grant of Bruce, Wis., besides a large circle of friends. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock, the pastor, Rev. Mason, officiating. The funeral was in charge of the Masonic order of this place, of which he was a member, assisted by a number of Masons from Castalia and Ossian. Interment was made in the Centennial cemetery. To all those who so kindly assisted them in the illness and death of the husband and father and also for the many beautiful flowers the family desire to extend their sincere thanks.
