Rose Ann Nienhaus, age 86, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Wellington Place in Decorah, a place she called “home” for the past 6 years.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church, 201 Oak Street in Fort Atkinson, IA, with Rev. Ivan Nienhaus presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the Helms Funeral Home Chekal Chapel, 201 Main Street in Fort Atkinson, IA and also from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home Monday morning.

Rose Ann Tekippe was born at home in Fort Atkinson on May 14, 1937, the youngest daughter of Aloysius and Grace (Smith) Tekippe. She spent her entire life in Fort Atkinson helping her folks run the telephone switchboard, being hired out as a farm girl to local new mothers and working at the Calmar Drug Store as a “soda jerk”. Her eyes were always on a handsome young man who worked at the Frudden Lumber Yard across the street from her home and they tied the knot on August 18, 1956. To this union four children were born. Theresa (Randy) Romens, Nancy Kovarik (Loren Hageman), David (DiAnne) Nienhaus and Sue (Darron) Sander. She was blessed with nine grandchildren: Jessica (Cory) Schouten, Scott (Megan) Romens, Luke (Kira) Romens, Roman Kovarik, Wayne (Latasha) Kovarik, Maria (Sergio) Endara, Alyson (Brandon) Haugen, Nicholas (Jared) Nienhaus and Kristina (Tim) Mansheim. Great grandchildren: Sadie and Maya Romens, Keira and James Schouten, Grayson Romens, Kalise Kovarik, Blake and Caleb Haugen, Mirielle Nienhaus, Claire, Damien and Elizabeth Mansheim and Mateo and Bianca Endara.

Those left to cherish her memory are her four children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her sisters-in-law: Janet Tekippe, Darlys Rausch, Phyllis Kipp, Mary (Don) Kuennen and brother-in-law: Dick (Marilyn) Nienhaus and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband Ray, 2018. Two grandchildren: Roman Kovarik and Alyson (Nienhaus) Haugen. Parents and parents in law, Alfred and Monica Nienhaus, Sister Ellen (Leonard) Soukup. Brothers: Benedict (Luella) Tekippe, Francis (Betty) Tekippe, Joseph Tekippe. Brothers-in-law: Carroll Nienhaus, Ken Kipp, Don Rausch, Leonard Soukup. Sister-in-law: Barb Dagit.
