Mds. Shevik, Jos. Mikesh and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Novak, Jr. and John Zoulek and Jos. Swehla were at Cresco last Thursday to meet the remains of Miss Regina Swehla.

The sad intelligence of Miss Regina Swehla’s death came to us Thursday morning at about 7 a. m. that she had passed away early that morning at the Cresco hospital. Seldom has anything caused a sorrow in so many homes as the news of the death of Regina, the oldest daughter of Mrs. Frances Swehla. For almost three years she was in failing health but there seemed hopes in her recovery at times. Later doctors claimed that there was no medical help for her, so she undertook the operation Tuesday. When Thursday morning, July 31st 1913, at the hour of about 7:30 God called her. Through all the painful suffering before death she was conscious until her last breath. She was brought home Thursday afternoon from Cresco. We have lost a young lady of a good character who will be missed long by many, she was born Feb. 6, 1892 in Spillville. The funeral occurred Saturday, Aug. 2, 1913, at 10 a. m. at the St. Wenceslaus church, Rev. Thos. Ballon officiating. The procession was headed by several little flower girls, then followed the band who rendered two funeral marches. The pall bearers were Jos. Bena, James Leebl, John Kovarik, W. C. Shevik, John Yunko and Geo. Skoda, who were accompanied by girl friends of the deceased—Misses Stella Bena, Mary Swartz, Emma Cibuzar, Mary Kovarik, Mame Herold and Celia Moravetz. Anton Balik was funeral director. Interment took place at the adjoining cemetery. The floral tributes were beautiful. She leaves to mourn her loving mother, sisters Ida, Louise, Mrs. Iver Ringdahl of Decorah and Rose, Mrs. Frank Novak of near Lawler and brother Joseph of Spillville. Her father preceded her about five years ago. You shall await us there where no more earth’s storms and billows rise, to strike thy shrinking bark; no more shall horrows pain thine eyes, nor agony thine heart. Friends and relatives from all the adjoining towns attended the funeral. Card of Thanks—To the friends who came to us in this hour of great sorrow to help and comfort us we return most heartfelt thanks and especially for the beautiful floral offerings. Mrs. Frances Swehla and daughter Ida.

Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone shows the name spelled Svehla.
