Mrs. Hepburn, wife of James Hepburn, former Winneshiek recorder who preceded her in death, died Thursday, Oct. 11, at Marshalltown, Iowa of a heart attack. She had not been ill for any length of time.
The Steine Funeral home of Decorah was in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers were Melvin Sattre, G. R. Isenberger, C.P. Seim, N.C. Ellingson, George Ellickson, and Carl Leuenberger.
The flower committee consisted of Mrs. Ed Johnson, Mrs. Andrew Solheim, Mrs. Arlin Ruffridge, Anna Moe and Gertie Moe.
Stella Davley Hepburn was born November 20, 1886 at Decorah to Magnus O and Mary Davley. She received her education at Decorah high and Valders Business college.

Mrs. Hepburn was deputy recorder for 4½ years under her husband who was elected three times - 1944, 1946, and in 1948- as Winneshiek county recorder. Mr. Hepburn suffered his first heart attack in 1941 and was in ill health up to his death May 20, 1949.
The popular county recorder was very active working with and in the interests of the youth of this community. He was responsible for organizing the Decorah Junior Drum and Bugle Corps and devoted much of his time to that organization until he became ill.
When James passed away, Mrs. Stella Hepburn was appointed county recorder to fill out the unexpired term of her husband from May, 1949 to January, 1951.

She lived in Chicago for five years and Los Angeles for three years.
She had one sister, Mrs. Louise Donaldson of Charles City, who preceded her in death July 17, 1951.
Surviving are two other sisters and one brother. They are: Mrs. P.N. (Cathryn) Peterson of Rockford, Ill., Mrs. H.M. (Ruby) Graham of Burr Oak, and Milton O. Davley of Marshalltown.
