Callie Rae Tweten, age 3 months, of Decorah, IA passed away peacefully snuggled in the arms of her parents, on Monday, January 22, 2024, at University of Wisconsin Madison American Family Childrens Hospital (AFCH).
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 29, 2024, at Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago Street, Decorah, IA. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Burial will be at the Burr Oak Cemetery following the service.
A luncheon will follow the burial on Monday at the Mabel Community Center, 201 S Main St, Mabel, MN 55954 2475.
A visitation will be held from 2 – 6 P.M., Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago Street, Decorah, IA.
In lieu of flowers: memorials may be made to the family in Callie’s memory.
The family asks that everyone wear something purple in Callie’s memory.
Callie Rae Tweten was born October 14, 2023, in LaCrosse, WI to Tyler and Nicole (Baumler) Tweten. She was baptized on January 18, 2024, at AFCH, Madison, WI.
Callie may have had a very short life here on earth; however, she made a huge impact on her family with memories that will last a lifetime. The first big memory was of Callie coming into this world in a flurry, in much more of a hurry than her parents anticipated. Prompting a ride with the Caledonia Ambulance to get her mom to LaCrosse for a safe delivery. Her parents thought they’d like to name her Callie in honor of the Caledonia Ambulance Department.
Callie was a very happy baby, and loved to be snuggled, and have her big brother Tade keeping a close eye on her. Callie enjoyed a couple weeks home after she was born with her mommy, daddy, and brother Tade, before she experienced a medical issue of low platelets in her blood that needed attention at the LaCrosse Hospital. Callie went through unsuccessful treatments and a brain bleed, so she was transferred to AFCH in Madison, WI. In total, Callie spent 77 days in the hospital, having to endure about 400 platelet transfusions and around 1000 blood pressure checks, along with an array of other medical interventions. Although Callie was not a big fan of blood pressure and vital checks, she rarely fussed about it. She would give the medical staff the side eye, and then begin smiling again a couple minutes later. She was so strong and so sweet.
Callie kept busy learning all the things a baby learns and was entertained by all the new things around her. She already had a very large selection of teddy bears and blankets to choose from. Her favorite toys were her hedgehog and aquarium. She would watch the fish and try to tap on the glass. Callie’s favorite thing to do was to snuggle and be loved on, and there was no shortage of snuggles or love for her. She was finding her voice and stealing everyone’s hearts that came near her. Callie captivated the people who got to spend the most time with her, including her friends, the staff at AFCH. Callie picked up the nickname, Callie Madison, for all the time spent there.
Callie’s mommy and daddy want to extend a special thank you to their parents and families for all the support and love given to them. Another special thank you goes to the UW Madison American Family Childrens Hospital for their ongoing compassion and care.
Callie is lovingly remembered by her parents Tyler and Nicole, and big brother Tade. Grandparents: Randy and Marie Tweten, and Leon and Gail Baumler. Aunts and uncles: Travis and Chelsey Tweten, Troy and Molly Tweten, Trent and Christine Tweten, and Kelly and Lance Bouska. Cousins: Annie and Kinsley, Annabelle, Scarlett and Raya Tweten, Hadley, Remy, and Jensen Bouska. Great-grandparents: Herb and Alverta Ehrie, Orabel Ehrie (Dave Dvorak), and Vi Krivacek. Along with many other relatives and friends.
Callie was preceded in death and met in heaven by the waiting arms of many relatives and friends who passed before her.
