Mr. and Mrs. Leo Poshusta of Calmar attended the funeral of Mr. Chekal last Thursday afternoon.

Death came to Wenzel Chekal last Tuesday, the 18th of March, 1913, at his home. He was taken ill about a week ago with pneumonia. Death came to Grandfather Chekal as a relief, we may say, for he was blind the past eleven years. He was born at Vobratan, Bohemia, the 18th of August, 1827, and came to America in 1866, and settling in Spillville. In 1849 he was married to Miss Barbara Poshusta at Bohemia, who preceded him in death twenty-four years ago. To them were born eight children, four of whom died in infancy. The daughters are Mrs. Mary Mussman of Chamberlain, S. D., and Miss Josephine Hestikan of Independence, Wis., and the sons are Frank Chekal of Chicago and W. C. Chekal of this place, who stayed and has taken care of his father until his death. The funeral took place Thursday afternoon, the 20th at 2 o’clock from St. Wenceslaus church. Rev Thos. Ballon performing the obsequies. The St Joseph’s society, to which the deceased belonged, escorted Grandfather Chekal to his last resting place. The pall bearers were: Simon Michael, Albert Novak, John Hrushka, Sr., John Janovsky, Thos. Taylor and Jos Stadle.
Mrs. Mary Mussman and daughter Lottie of Chamberlin, S. D., Mrs. Josie Hestikan and daughter Mrs. Clara Abrahamson of Independence, Wis., F. J. Chekal of Chicago and Chas. Poshusta of Mason City were here to attend the funeral of Wenzel Chekel.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows Mary Mussman’s father’s name was Vaclav Cekal. He is buried in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.
