OBITUARY
William Henry Stoddard, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Stoddard, died at the family home in West Decorah, Friday, July 28th, 1911. Thus passes the promise of a happy, noble life. Henry Stoddard, as he was usually called, was a young man of more than ordinary promise. His disposition was cheerful, with a pleasant smile for all, so he was a universal favorite with his friends. He was born in Minneapolis, Minn. June 7, 1891, and came to Decorah when ten years of age. At the time of his death he was associated with his father in business in West Decorah. Shortly after his coming to Decorah he united with the Congregational church as has ever since been an earnest, consistent member except four years spent in Davenport. His kindly genial presence will be greatly missed in church circles.
The cause of his death was not fully ascertained until a post mortem examination was made and then it was found that he had for some time been suffering with chronic appendicitis. He had for some time at intervals been afflicted with what was apparently stomach trouble but not of such a character as to indicate appendicitis. He was stricken last on the Monday previous to his death and for two days, while he suffered, his temperature and pulse remained practically normal. It is a known fact that eshronic{sic} appendicitis in so insidious that it is very difficult to ascertain the exact facts.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows his name as Henry W. He is buried in Phelps cemetery.
