John P. Tenold Dies at Flandreau.
From the Flandreau, S. D., Enterprise we learn that John P. Tenold, whose boyhood days were spent in and near Calmar died on the 4th inst. from a complication of heart and kidney trouble. The Enterprise said of the deceased:
John P. Tenold was born in Chicago, Illinois, November 11, 1853. He was a son of Ole P. and Mary Tenold. His parents came to America and settled in Long Prairie, Illinois; and from there moved to Calmar Iowa. Here John P. Tenold grew to manhood. He was educated at Fayette, Iowa, remaining at home until 17 years of age, when he began clerking at Ridgeway, Iowa, and remained there for nine years. In the fall of 1880 he came to Flandreau and clerked for a short time and in 1882 entered into partnership with Andrew Holien and opened a general store which they ran for nearly ten years. Then Mr. Tenold operated the business alone and continued in the same line of business until 1909, when he sold the ladies’ and grocery department to Moen Bros. & Hove, retaining the clothing and gents’ furnishing department which he has conducted with his won William up to the time of his death.
He was married to Miss Bertha Johnson in July, 1881, from which union four children have been born. Besides his wife and children to mourn his loss he leaves one brother, Ole Tenold, of Calmar, Iowa, and three sisters, Diana Tenold, of Calmar, Iowa, Emily Tenold and Mrs. Josephine Kittlesby, both of Chicago, all of whom were present at the funeral.
John P. Tenold was a thorough business man. He displayed unusual qualifications in the mercantile line and was very successful, having built up a big trade. His name was known in every part of the country. Mr. Tenold was a man of strong character, trustworthy and reliable.
The funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 7th.
