Brought Home for Burial.
Word came to R. F. B. Portman on Monday of last week that his sister-in-law, Mrs. Blanche Kirby, was seriously ill at Independence and he went to that city at once. Mrs. Kirby died at 6:45 Tuesday morning, about two hours before Mr. Portman reached her bedside, the end coming peacefully while she slept. Mrs. Kirby was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Stewart, well known pioneer residents of Decorah. Her parents and one sister have been dead for some years, the surviving members of the family being Mrs. Portman of this city and Mrs. J. P. Kirby of Buffalo, N. Y. The remains were brought to Decorah last Wednesday, Rev. Willett officiating at the funeral, and interment was made at Phelps cemetery.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she was born in 1843.
