Inez Holstad, age 96, of Decorah, IA died on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, with her family by her side at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Madison Lutheran Church - 2658 Madison Rd, Decorah, IA 52101. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Tuesday morning. The Helms Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Inez Lorraine (Bauer) Holstad was born on September 12, 1926, the daughter of Harry and Martha (Papenfuss) Bauer. She was baptized and confirmed at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Nodine, MN. On September 13, 1947, she married Stanley Holstad at this same church. To this union three children were born: Mary, Sandra, and Jeffrey. They lived in Ridgeway until 1955 and then moved to the farm where they lived for 34 years.

They were members of the Madison Lutheran Church. She was an active member of the WELCA, the Bethany circle, and taught Sunday school.

She kept busy on the farm and worked at Deco Products in Decorah for several years. In 1987 they moved to Decorah. Since Stanley’s passing in 1994, she continued living in their house in Decorah. She kept busy with the yard work, enjoying her flowers, and doing what she loved best, baking her family’s favorite foods. After her health declined, she spent most of her time at home. She enjoyed cooking, cleaning, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards with friends, and reading. Her favorite times were when her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren came home.

She is survived by her children: Mary Ellen (Tom) Bateman, Waterloo, IA and Sandra Weber, Galena, IL. Grandchildren: Brad Bateman, Ames, IA; Nicole Bateman, Waterloo, IA; Brian Bateman, Waterloo, IA; Jordan Weber, Aurora, CO; Alex Weber, Denver, CO; Krystal Holstad, Boise, ID; Jeremy Holstad, Helena, MT; Kaitlyn Holstad, Nampa, ID; and Justin Holstad; Nampa, ID. Five great-grandchildren. Sister: Carol (Don) Schnitzler, Burr Oak, IA. Sister-in-law: Shirley Salzano, Durham, NC and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, Stanley in 1994. Her son Jeffrey Holstad in 2019. Son-in-law: Frank Weber. Parents: Harry and Martha Bauer. Sisters: Leona (Frank) Gile and Phyllis (Richard) Wood. Brothers: Walter (Leona) Bauer, John (Thec) Bauer, and Robert (Rosella) Bauer. Parents-in-law: Albert and Evelyn Holstad. Brothers-in-law: Lyle (Judy) Holstad, John Salzano and Fred Zechman.
