Died at Soldiers’ Home.
Lieut. Anton E. Anderson, who was taken sick while visiting in Decorah recently died on Thursday last at the soldiers’ home at Marshalltown, the cause of death being illocolitis. The remains were brought to Decorah for burial on Saturday by his nephew, Ivan Ringstad of Chicago. Mr. Anderson was born in Norway in 1837 and was a brother of the late Lieut. O. A. Anderson, who passed away the early part of the year. His residence in America dated from his early manhood and most of it was spent in Decorah and vicinity. Like his brother, he was a man of patriotic instincts and he enlisted in Co. G, 12th Iowa Infantry, on Oct. 9, 1861, serving until May 23, 1865, when he was mustered out at Selma, Ala., with the rank of first lieutenant. After the war he returned to Decorah. For many years he was engaged as baggageman onthe{sic} J. & D. division of the Milwaukee road, but was compelled in time to give up his duties on account of infirmities due to his service in the army. He applied for and was admitted to the soldiers’ home on Dec. 3, 1890, where he won the respect of his comrades and those who had charge of the home.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Sept. 1 1837 and died Sept. 7, 1910. He is buried in the Lutheran Decorah Cemetery.
