OBITUARY.
CATHERINE GAVAN{sic}.
Catherine Gavan{sp} was born July 20, 1831, at Elgin, Huntington county, Quebec, Canada. Departed this life Aug. 23, 1910, aged 71 years, 1 month and 3 days. She was married to Thomas Burgess November, 1858, and moved to Michigan in 1864. Thence to Wisconsin and finally to Winneshiek county in 1866, where she continued to reside until her decease.
To this union there was born five children, three of whom were deceased, two having died in Michigan and one in Iowa. The two surviving children are Charles of Bluffton and George of Cresco.
The subject of this memoir has not been called upon to suffer very long, her illness having been of brief duration. Though not a member of the church she was a good woman, a splendid neighbor, a kind friend, a devoted wife and fond mother, and will be greatly missed. The body will repose in the nearby cemetery and her memory and influence will remain for years to come.
The funeral was held Thursday afternoon, Aug. 25th, at the Bluffton church, Rev. W. M. Lemen officiating.
