THE SILENT REAPER.
OLE O. BLAGSVEDT
Ole Blagsvedt, who travels for Squire, Harvey & Co., of Chicago, was taken sick last week in St Paul and was obliged to go to the hospital. Last Thursday a telegram sent Mrs. Blagsvedt and daughter to his bedside. Friday a telegram was received by Ole Blagsvedt, Jr., and Rev. Otto E. Schmidt to come at once. The telegram came after the morning train had gone but Mr. Edw. Rossley came to their rescue and took them to Riceville in his automobile where a train on the Great Western was caught. The other two daughters, Misses Ollie and Bertha, went up Friday night. An operation for galls tones was performed Friday night and was so successful apparently that the son came home Sunday morning. Monday morning telegrams were again received asking for Rev. O. Schmidt and Ole Jr., and they at once went back.
Monday a telegram was received announcing that death had occurred at 1 o’clock that afternoon. The cause of Mr. Blagsvedt’s death was a complication of uremia and nephritis, which are affections of the kidneys, and as Mr. Blagsvedt had been suffering for some time with heart trouble he had not the constitution to withstand an operation.
Ole O. Blagsvedt was born at Amherst, Minn., September 28 1855. Thirty-four years ago he married Miss Anna Arney near Beloit, Wis. To this union there were born seven children, Adolph, Olaf, Clara, Alfred, Bertha and Charley, who died at the age of three years. Mr. Blagsvedt’s business was that of a commercial traveler representing a Chicago mercantile house and he enjoyed a wide acquaintance all over the northwest. He was of a very genial disposition, frank, open-hearted and generous to an extreme that made him a universal favorite, just one of those kind of men that people are always glad to meet. His cheery presence will be sadly missed on our streets. The remains and the family returned Monday night and the funeral was held from the United Lutheran church yesterday afternoon.
