THE SILENT REAPER.
A. J. Cratsenberg Died Suddenly Last Friday Morning—Miss Aase Haugen Passed Away After Long Illness.

AASE HAUGEN
After a long illness and much suffering, Miss Aase Haugen, who has been a resident of Madison township for many years, died last Saturday morning from cancer. Miss Haugen was born in Eggedal, Norway, April 8, 1841, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bjorn Haugen. We have been unable to secure other important data regarding her life, but she was known as a woman of much liberality where church or charitable objects were concerned. It was through her generosity that the United Lutheran church of Decorah secured its pipe organ, and it is understood that by her will she makes handsome bequests of a charitable nature. Her near relatives residing in this vicinity are Peter and Gulbrand Haugen and Mrs. Moden, cousins. The funeral was held Tuesday; services at the home taking place at eleven o’clock, followed by service at the United Lutheran church in Decorah. Burial was made at the Haugen cemetery Revs. Schmidt Fjelde of Waukon and Bakken of Washington Prairie officiated.

MISS HAUGEN’S WILL.
She leaves All of Her Estate for the Benefit of Charity.
The last will and testament of Miss Aase Haugen, who died last week at her home in Madison township, was filed with the county clerk and the same will be admitted to probate. Miss Haugen was an earnest Christian woman and in closing her earthly affairs her thoughts were for the church and humanity. The will is a close, concise document and she leaves her entire fortune to the United Lutheran church as trustees to carry out her wishes. The church is directed to establish a home for aged people to be called the ”Aase Haugen Home.” If after due deliberation the trustees of the inheritance find this is impracticable they are directed to give one-fourth of her estate to the help of the Orphans’ Home of Beloit, Iowa; one-fourth to the Deaconness home in Chicago; one-fourth to home missions and one-fourth to foreign missions. There are not any strict instructions laid on the trustees for the consideration of the question of a home for aged people. In fact, they are free to act as they thing{soc} for the best interest of all. The executors of the will are Rev. Otto E. Schmidt, J. J. Hopperstad and Erick Walteland of Minneapolis. Just what the extent of Miss Haugen’s wealth is has not yet been determined, but she was a comparatively rich woman at the time of her death.
