Harald Stoen passed away at his son Halsten Stoen’s home last Saturday at 4:30 from a complication of diseases incident ‘to old age’, the main cause being an arteria sclerosis, or hardening of the blood vessels. He was one of the earliest of the hardy Norsemen who settled in this part, coming here when the Indian still roamed around in numbers. He was of a powerful physique, and was always a hard worker and accumulated considerable of this world’s goods. He was of a genial, whole souled disposition and did considerable to help along the less fortunate of the early settlers. He was always the leading member in the church and one of the heaviest contributors for church and school expenses,--in fact a model citizen, highly respected by everyone, and leaves to mourn his demise two sons, Halsten and Thosten, and three daughters, Mrs. Henry Olson, Mrs. Tom Gjere and Mrs. Ole Bidne at Decorah. Funeral to-morrow with interment in the Big Canoe cemetery.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born July 16, 1831 and died Aug. 6, 1910.
