Frankville loses one of her old and highly respected citizens in the passing away of Mrs. Sherman. She was one of the early settlers and was the oldest resident as well as the oldest person in town, being 94 years, 11 mos and 17 days. Isabelle Sherman was born in Ireland, July 12, 1815, and died June 29, 1910. She emigrated with her parents Mr. and Mrs. John Clark to America when a child and settled in Ontario, Canada. Here she was united in marriage to Jas. G. Sherman, Oct. 18, 1837, where they resided until 1852. TO this union ten children were born, five sons and five daughters, of whom eight are left to survive her. Her husband and two children preceded her to the great beyond. The remaining are Louise, Mrs. John Todd of Sanborn, Laura, Mrs. James Webster of Ocheyedan, Matilda, Mrs. Jess Patrick of Minneapolis, Minn., Sarah, Mrs. J. D. Schenck of Estherville, William, Isaiah of South Dakota, George and Clark of Frankville. She has been a faithful believed and a devoted Christian, most of her life, having been converted at the early age of 14 in Canada and has belonged t the Frankville M. E. church the past 45 years. The funeral services were held at the M. E> church Saturday at 10 o’clock, after which the remains were taken to the Centennial where she was laid at rest by the side of her husband.
“Safe in the arms of Jesus,
Safe on his gentle breast,
There by his love o’ershadowed,
Sweetly her soul will rest.”
To the friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted them in her long illness and to all those who by acts of sympathy or words of condolence made their days of sadness less painful to bear the relatives desire to etxend{sic} their sincere thanks.
