Donald Einck age 74, of Decorah, IA, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at his home outside of Decorah.

A private family funeral will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.

A Celebration of Life will be from 2:00-5:00 on Sunday, May 7th at the VFW in Decorah.

Donald Raymond Einck was born on March 1, 1949 to Edwin and Irene (Meyer) Einck; one of six children. Don grew up helping on the family farm and enjoyed hunting & fishing. Don graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1967. After high school, he was drafted into the army. After his deployment he worked for Roverud Construction; but the majority of his career was spent at Camcar. Her retired in 2011 after working for the company for over 30 years. His favorite pastimes included his annual fishing & quail hunting trips to Kansas, watching the boys race motocross & racecars, golfing, traveling, relaxing in his recliner, working on the pond, and taking care of his lawn.

Donald married Gaye Meyer on December 11, 1971 at Wheatland Church in New Albin, Iowa. To this union, two sons were born: Todd & Toby.

Don will be remembered as a kind man. He had a giving heart & loved to “give people a hard time” with his witty sense of humor. Don enjoyed having people out to fish on their beautiful pond and always had time for cold beers and conversations in the garage. Don loved supporting his boys and was proud of all their accomplishments. Don will be greatly missed by many family & friends.

Donald Raymond Einck is survived by his wife, Gaye and his two children: Todd (Shelly) Einck of Allison, IA and Toby (Clarissa) Einck of Decorah, IA. Grandchildren: Rylee Einck, Hayden Einck, Kinsey Einck, Nash Arkulari, Toby Arkulari, & Shelby Arkulari. His three siblings: Darlene Benedict with special friend Steve Nelson, Denise O’Shea, and Deb Palmersheim with husband Mark.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents Edwin & Irene Einck, Gaye’s parents Elmer & Lois Meyer. Brothers: Dean “Bear” Einck, Duane Einck, brother’s in-law: Hugh Meyer & Michael O’Shea.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in Donald Einck’s name to Hospice or any VA Clinic/Cemetery.
