John Betus{sic} Harvey was born in the state of Vermont, Feb. 14, 1824. Early in life he moved with his parents to Ohio. April 13, 1844, he was married to Sarah Wheeler at West Mansfield, Ohio. In the spring of 1855 he came to Iowa and settled in Bloomfield township, Winneshiek county, where he resided continuously until the time of his death, which occurred Feb. 16, 1910. To this union was born eleven children, five of whom are living: Mrs. Mary E. Banning, of Cedar, N. D.; Mrs. Ruth J. Moore of Calmar, Mrs. Alma V. Bush of Lime Springs, Dennis C. and Albert S. Harvey, both of Castalia. The funeral occurred from the U. B. church here Friday, Feb. 18, 1910, the Rev. Penn officiating. Another of the early pioneers has answered the final summons at the ripe age of four score and six. His life companion preceded him one year ago this month. The friends of the deceased wish to thank all who so kindly assisted during his last sickness.
