Death Lays Heavy Toll During the Week, Claiming Young and Old—Three Deaths from Tuberculosis.
DIED.
FLETCHER—At the Sacred Heart hospital in Eau Claire, Wis., on the 9th day of January,{sic} 1910, Mrs. Julietta Fletcher, aged 72 years.
Julietta Rockwell was born in Esperance, New York, April 22, 1838. In the early fifties she came west with an older sister, living a short time in Chicago. From Illinois she moved in 1854 to Bluffton, Winneshiek county, Iowa. Here on Oct. 30, 1855, she was married to Franklin R. Fletcher, and here was founded a home which yielded to them thirty-five years of happy congenial, wedded life.
To this union was born five children: Mrs. Alphonso H. Meader and Mrs. Charles M. Merrill of Eau Claire, Wis., Chauncey Fletcher, who died in infancy, Dr. Elmer L. Fletcher of Eugene, Ore., and C. Tilden Fletcher of Thompson, Iowa.
On December 7th, 1909, Mrs. Fletcher fell and broke her hip, and was taken to the Sacred Heart hospital in that city. For one of her advanced age she withstood the long, tiresome ordeal incident to these injuries remarkably well. The cast had been removed from her hip and limb and she was sitting up some. Friends and relatives were congratulating her upon her splendid recovery when suddenly, without warning, she was stricken with paralysis, passing away almost instantly.
She at all times manifested a beautiful Christian character, her bright and cheery way showed that her Christian life was an every-day thing and not something to be put off and on at will.
The following passage of Scripture which she loved and often repeated indicates a life that was pure and beautiful: “Search me O God and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts, and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”—Psalm 139: 34 and 24.

Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone in Phelps cemetery shows her date of death as Feb. 9, 1910 and that her name was Julliette.
