KILLED.
Albert Uher, a Section Hand, is Killed by the Cars.
The following details of the killing of a Calmar man is taken from the Calmar Courier of last Friday.
Just as we were nearly ready to run off this issue, the horribly mangled body of Albert Uher was carried by and taken to the undertaker’s room, train No. 94 having crushed out his life shortly after one o’clock this afternoon. The train was not running on time, being several hours late. Mr. Uher was a section hand under foreman Joseph Goetkin, on the section between Calmar and Ossian. When No. 94 came along the section men hurried to get their hand car off the track, and just succeeded in doing so when the engine was right upon them. After pushing off the car, Mr. Uher on straightening up lost his footing and fell backward onto the track just in front of the engine and was instantly killed. He had some gashes on his head which no doubt caused his death. His left hand was cut off and both legs crushed. Joseph Goetkin also was hit and bruised some but was able to walk into town.
Albert had been living here for several years with his brother Frank. He was about 45 years old and leaves a wife and three children, two boys and a girl who live at Prairie du Chien. A dispatch was at once sent to them of his death. It was a sad affair and the bereaved have the sympathy of the entire community.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows this was Vojtech who was born April 19, 1863 and died Nov. 26, 1909. He is buried in St. Aloysius Cemetery.
