An Old Resident Passes Away.
After an illness of many weeks, Mrs. Louisa Ervin Darling, wife of David Darling of Hesper township, passed peacefully to her long rest, Thursday night, Oct. 7, 1909.
Louisa Ervin was born in Broome county N. Y. Nov. 24, 1834. In 1843 she moved with her parents to Walworth county, Wis., where she met and married David Darling, who survives her. In 1853, they came to Winneshiek county, where they have resided ever since, with the exception of three years spent in Minnesota. Mrs. Darling was the mother of seven children. One, Cecilia, died in infancy. The six living to mourn with and to comfort their father in this his greatest bereavement are Garnavillo Darling, Will Darling, Mrs. E. W. Osley and Mrs. Elwin Lincoln, of this county, Mrs. G. A. White of Mabel, Minn., and Albert Darling of Montrose, S. D. Besides her husband and children, Mrs. Darling is survived by three brothers, two sisters and seventeen grandchildren. Three brothers and three sisters have passed away before her. Mrs. Darling was a most devoted wife, a tender, loving mother and a true friend and neighbor. The many of us who have enjoyed her friendship and the kind, generous hospitality of her home will feel her loss deeply and hope that our heartfelt sympathy will, in a measure, comfort the bereaved ones.
The funeral services were held at the home on Looking Glass Prairie, Monday, Oct. 11, Rev. Lee, of New Hampton, formerly of Burr Oak, officiating clergyman. Interment in Burr Oak cemetery.

To-day occurs the burial of Mrs. David Darling, the seventh pioneer mother buried in Burr Oak cemetery since April 19th. Mrs. Darling has been just simply staying for many weeks, and Friday morning, the 8th, she fell asleep. We are without any data. We know that Mrs. Darling came into this vicinity in the 50’s and her life has been spent here. She has reared a family of three boys and three girls. Since Mr. Darling has been an invalid, she has been his constant nurse, until her health failed under the strain. It was a great shock to her when her sister Mrs. Briggs was taken in July, since which time she has gradually failed. Rev. Lee from New Hampton, a former pastor here, conducted the funeral ceremonies. His many friends here were pleased to greet him.
