Gloria Eva was born on October 11, 1956, in Veracruz, Mexico. She was the second child to Francisco Miguel Acosta Camara and Gloria Garcia Urenda. Sister of Francisco Gabriel, Alicia Susan and Maria Teresa. She was a member of the Catholic Choir at her church. She carried out her studies in Veracruz. During her childhood, Gloria participated in many important events of the city.

In 1981, she left for San Francisco, CA to carry out her studies in the English language. Gloria Eva moved to Houston, TX after her studies in California where she met the love of her life, Gary Wiest in 1982. They were married in Fort Atkinson, IA on May 24, 1985. They remained living in Houston until they moved to Iowa in 1987. In 1986, she gave birth to their only child, Gary Joseph. He was her pride and joy!

They moved to Decorah in 1990 where she was employed at Luther College in food service. She worked in catering, co-managed Marty’s cafeteria and bakery for over 20 years. She loved her co-workers and all the students she met. She entertained and dined many students in her home and enjoyed that immensely! Gloria then went to work for the Oneota Food Coop for three years alongside many great people. In 2018, Gloria went to work for Bruening Rock Products where she scaled trucks at the Dotzler Quarry west of Cresco. She loved meeting all of the truck drivers who came through to weigh at her scale.

She was proud to host three nephews and three nieces from Mexico for their junior years at Decorah High School. Paco, Quique, Alex, Gloria, Judith, and Maripaz gave her so much joy and happiness while they lived with Gloria and Gary for a school year. She enjoyed biking like no other. Going on around twenty Ragbrai Rides, many times riding from Cedar Falls out to the starting point with many special friends. She had so many awesome friends! Two more Pride & Joys in her life were Sol and Sophia, her godchildren. She enjoyed traveling the world and her annual trips home to be with her beloved family in Mexico. Some of her trips included China, Laos, Honduras, Belize, the UK, France, Netherlands, Italy, and Spain. One-week trips were not her norm. She wanted to extensively explore these countries and usually needed four or five weeks to do so. Her husband had the extreme pleasure to enjoy these journeys with her. Did we mention her very, very special friends? They will know who they are when they read this! Reading was also a huge passion of hers as well!
