Mrs. Lucy Manning, from near Ossian, was brought here for burial on Sunday. A short service was held at the grave, conducted by Rev. Densmore. The choir sang that good old song “Shall we meet beyond the River?” by request of Mrs. Manning. Mr. and Mrs. Manning were among the very first settlers of Burr Oak, owned quite a tract of land north of town known as Manning’s addition, while W. H. Willsie owned south, and each of these men gave lots to any one that would build on it. Now Mr. and Mrs. Willsie and Mr. and Mrs. Manning are gone from suffering here. Since Apr. 10th of this year five early settlers of Burr Oak, all widow ladies, have been laid away in our cemetery., Mrs. Mary Feltis, Mrs. Lucy Briggs, Mrs. Julila Tillepaugh, Mrs. Rachel McLaughlin and Mrs. Lucy Manning.
