ANDREW T. GUNDERSON DEAD.
Was One of Ossian’s Most Prominent Merchants for Many Years.
Word came to Ossian last Friday that Andrew T. Gunderson, one of the best and most widely known residents of that town, had died at Salt Lake City, after an illness of three weeks at a hospital there, from summer complaint. About a month ago Mr. Gunderson departed for a trip to the coast and thought seriously of settling there, and it was while on this trip that he became ill.
The deceased was a native of Kongsberg, Norway, where he was born on Sept. 18, 1847. He came to America and to Ossian late in the sixties, and for twenty years worked for the Baker Brothers—Henry and Andrus—who later sold out to him and went to Sioux City. In the business he was associated with R. Anderson, to whom he sold his interest four years ago, since which time he has not been actively engaged. He was a keen, shrewd business man capable of driving a good bargain but withal a most kindly and generous hearted man, especially to those who were in distress and needy. An illustration of this trait is told by A. C. Baker. In the early days an aged Norwegian newly arrived at Ossian was taken sick, had little or no money and there was no one to care for him. Learning of his situation Mr. Gunderson personally saw to his wants and paid the expenses of the illness out of his own pocket.
Thrice married, Mr. Gunderson leaves five children to survive him, his wives having preceded him in death. He is also survived by a sister and one brother (G. F. Gunderson) in America and two sisters in Norway. The children are Mrs. W. Austin Pegg of Velva, N. D., Adolph, Nora, Clara and Margaret Gunderson of Ossian.
In his business life he was succes{s}ful and he leaves an estate estimated to be worth $40,000. He was vice president of the Citizens Bank of Os(s)ian and was interested in banking enterprises at other points.
The remains were brought to Ossian Tuesday and the funeral was held yesterday, the Rev. B. Askevold assisted by the Rev. Lauritz Larson of Cresco, officiating, with interment in Hillside cemetery. This was the first funeral to occur from the new Lutheran church at Ossian.

Transcriber's Note: Find a Grave shows his name as Anders "Andrew".
