Elihu Baxter Thomes was born in Standish, Maine, in 1826, and died in Mabel, Minn., on July 30, 1909. Was united in marriage with Frances Ann Taylor in 1851. In 1855 they came west and settled in Minneapolis, where they lived until they came to Hesper in 1867. Mrs. Thomes passed away in 1905. To them were born there children two of whom survive, Mrs. W. C. Bacon and Geo. O. Thomes of Mabel. The funeral service was held in the M. E. church at Mabel on the 2d and the remains were laid at rest beside those of his companion in the Hesper cemetery.
