Evelyn Ode age 93 of Decorah, IA passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Wellington Place in Decorah surrounded by her family.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the First Lutheran Church, 604 W Broadway St. in Decorah with Rev. Michael Wilker presiding. Burial will be in the spring at Washington Prairie Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers: memorials may be directed to the family at 3568 Middle Hesper Road, Decorah, IA 52101

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church.

Evelyn was the seventh child born to Albert Herman and Anna Ovidia (Fortun) Loven in Allamakee County on May 15, 1929.

She was baptized on September 17, 1929 at the Glenwood parsonage and confirmed July 11, 1943 at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church.

Evelyn married Lester Raymond Ode on April 30, 1955, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Waterloo, IA. To this union, three children were born; Randall Paul who died in infancy in December 1956, Debra and Jeffery.

Evelyn loved her family, enjoyed coffee time with friends and was an avid dog lover. But nothing brought a bigger smile to her than when she became a great grandma to Austin, Brooks, Jacob and Hayes. She lovingly called them her ‘poopsies’.

In the late 80’s, Evelyn worked with the Head Start program. She also was an active member of the Circle at First Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary 1977.

Evelyn is survived by her children; Debra Ode of Coon Rapids, MN and Jeff (Candy) Ode of Decorah, IA. Grandchildren; Jeremy (Laura) Ode of Decorah, IA and Bridget (Dustin) Pierson of Tiffin, IA. Great grandchildren (Her Poopsies); Austin and Jacob Ode, Brooks and Hayes Pierson.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; Albert and Anna Loven. Husband Lester (2000) and son Randall Paul (1956). Siblings; William Loven, Margaret (Leonard) Feuerhelm, Irene (Jim) Allison, Marion Loven, Vernon (Patricia) Loven, and Roger (Doris) Loven. In-laws; Gus (Stena) Ode, Elsie (Leonard) Brown, Henry (Florence) Ode, Walter (Marvel) Ode, and Rudy (Gail) Ode.
