Last Friday a gloom was cast over this community when the discovery was made that Mathias Bena was found dead in the river a short distance from his home. For the past few weeks his mind seemed to be affected, and when the family missed him at 4 o’clock Friday morning,a search was started immediately for him which ended with the above result. The funeral services took place last Sunday at 3 p. m. at the St. Wenceslaus church. Deceased was about sixty years of age and leaves a wife, five sons and four daughters. The afflicted family have the heartfelt sympathy of the whole community.

Among those from out of town who attended the burial of Mr. Bena last Sunday were the following: Mr. and Mrs. Knut Boe and children of near Calmar, Haus Sandager and his sister Miss Emma, and Mr. and Mrs. John Frana of Conover, Mr. and Mrs. Riha of Festina and Mr. and Mrs. James Sobolik of Calmar.

Transcriber’s Note: St. Wenceslaus Cemetery shows the name spelled Bina. He was born in 1839.
