Another Old Settler at Rest.
Wm. McIntosh, another old resident of Winneshiek county, died Thursday last from a hemorrhage at his home in the first ward. Mr. McIntosh was born Jan. 15, 1830{?}, in Columbiana county, Ohio, where he grew to manhood. He came to Winneshiek county in the spring of 1885 where the greater part of his remaining life was spent. For two years he was engaged in the operation of the planing mill in Tama county. This was burned and he returned to Winneshiek to reside. On December 24th, 1862, he was married to Mary C. Crawford, who preceded him in death about twenty years ago. Five children were born to them, only two of whom survive. They are Mary J. and John A. J. On July 19, 1893, Mr. McIntosh was married to Miss Janet Kerr and they have enjoyed nearly sixteen years of happy companionship. Mr. McIntosh served his country during the last year of the war, enlisting in the fall of 1864 in Co. H. 13th Iowa infantry, and being mustered out in the July following. For many years he was engaged successfully in farming in Madison township, but because of ill health he had to relinquish active labor. For several years he resided in Waukon but he returned to Decorah eventually and made his home here.
The funeral was held Sunday last, Rev. M. Willett officiating, and the remains were interred in the McIntosh cemetery in Madison township with Masonic honors, the deceased having been a member of the order for more than a half century. Among those who came to attend the funeral were two surviving brothers—Alex McIntosh of Cresco and Johnston McIntosh of Villisca.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born in 1831 which the gravestone also appears to show.
