Aged Women Pass Away.
Mrs. Howkis, an aged lady who has lived with her daughter in the John Bloomfield house, 708 Mechanic street, for the past year or more, died Tuesday morning. Mrs. Howkis lived for many years near Freeport. Beside her daughter she has a son who has been in Alaska for several years. The deceased was a kindly lady who has seen much of hardship for a number of years and goes to a well earned rest.

INGABOR CHRISTINE HERMAN.

Ingabor Christine Herman was born in Norway the 5th day of February, 1827, and came to this country at an early age. She landed in Chicago and soon after she married Tollif Howkis. They went to Wisconsin shortly after this and entered upon a pioneer life, staying in Wisconsin ten years and then emigrated to Iowa. They lived at Highlandville two years and then moved to Freeport and settled on a farm near that place where they lived together until the year 1884 when her husband died March 2d. She has been a widow for 25 years. After her husband’s death the children scattered and she was left with one daughter and the youngest son. She was the mother of eleven children, nine of whom grew to manhood and womanhood. She went through with many hardships and privation during her long life of 82 years. She and her husband were both members of the Norwegian M. E. church on Washington Prairie. Her youngest son left her and went to Alaska 11 years ago and she moved to Decorah with her daughter, who she lived with here until her death, which occurred on April 20, 1909. She leaves six children ot{sic} mourn her loss, two boys and four girls.

K. O. Andeson attended the funeral of Mrs. Howkis held at Decorah last Friday. Mrs. Howkis was for years a resident of this place and will be remembered by the older inhabitants.
