In the death of Mrs. Mary Ann Feltis, which occurred April 10, 1909, at the home of her son in Burr Oak, another pioneer has passed to her final rest. Mrs. Feltis’ maiden name was Mary Ann McCarl. Born in Moretown, N. Y., and if she had lived until June 19th would have been 85 years of age. Left an orphan when a child, she lived with different families until she married Wm. Feltis at the age of 18. Came to Iowa in 1865, settled in Burr Oak township, which has since been her home. Six sons and two daughters remain of a family of eleven, and these children were all, much with the mother during her last sickness, and all but Samuel attended the funeral ‘Twas a rare occurrence to see five stalwart sons, all white haired, bear the mother. Besides the children there are 42 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Mrs. Feltis has been widowed since 1891. In early life she became a member of the M. E. church and in her last sickness often expressed a desire to go “home.”

Jack and Bob Feltis started home to Canada Friday morning, getting as far as Minneapolis, where they stayed over night with Fran Peacock and family and Saturday they received a telegram to come back as their mother was so much worse. She died at 5 o’clock Saturday evening, and the boys got back Sunday morning.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she was born June 19, 1824 and she is buried in the Burr Oak Cemetery.
