Robert Gunther age 81 of Decorah, IA passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at his home in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 12th, 2023, at the First Lutheran Church, 604 W Broadway St. in Decorah with Rev. Michael Wilker presiding.

Visitation will be Thursday one hour prior to the funeral starting at 10:30 a.m.

Robert Allen Gunther was born February 26th, 1941, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from Sibley High School in West Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1959. Robert married his high school sweetheart, Brenda Kidd in 1960. He attended Saint Paul Vocational and Dunwoody Institute for drafting. Robert was employed with the Toro Manufacturing company for 16 years and attended the University of Minnesota for mechanical engineering. Robert and Brenda moved to Rice Lake, Wisconsin to work for Wright Products and then to Decorah to work for Deco Products. After retiring from Deco, Robert went on to become a certified airplane mechanic. He restored a Cessna and then built two RV kit planes. He always preferred to tinker with the planes rather than to fly.

Robert was a member of the First Lutheran Church and Oneota Golf and Country Club.

Robert is survived by his wife Brenda (Kidd) Gunther. One daughter: Bonnie (Michael) Sadowski. Son: Robert John Gunther. Two grandchildren: Ryan Sadowski and Katelyn Sadowski.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents: Alvin J and Marie (Dallman) Gunther. One sister Beverly Clark and one brother Bradley Gunther.
