Arlin Bakken, age 84, died on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at Wellington Place Nursing Home in Decorah.

A Celebration of His Life Reception will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023, in the Parish Hall of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made out to Howard County Hospice - 402 2nd Ave SE Cresco, IA, 52136 or sent to the family at - 304 Summer St. Decorah, IA, 52101.

Arlin Bakken was born on January 25, 1938, in Ridgeway, Iowa, the son of Henry O. and Kaia (Nelson) Bakken. He attended Decorah High School and then entered the U.S. Navy in 1955. Following his time in the service, he attended Area-1 College in Calmar where he received his Building Management Degree.

Arlin was united in marriage to Marion Goyette on June 28, 1959, in Troy, New York. This union was blessed with four children: Brenda, Arlin, William, and Tina.

In his working career, Arlin worked at Bakken Well Drilling, United Building Centers in Calmar until they closed, K & S SuperValue, and Wisconsin Dairies where he would retire. Arlin enjoyed refurnishing old furniture, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, collecting thimbles, Antiquing, playing cards, solving word search puzzles, reading his bible, and telling stories.

Arlin is survived by his four children: Brenda (Andy) Hageman of Decorah, Arlin H. (Fuzzy) Bakken of Oshkosh, WI, William (Cindy) Bakken of Denver, IA and Tina (Rod Brown) Bakken of Blair, WI; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. Siblings: Dorothy Hanson of Faribault, MN, Hubert (Judy) Bakken of Decorah, Durwin (Jean) Bakken of Kansas City, MO, and Linda (Doug) Martin of Kansas City, MO. Three brothers-in-law: Tom (June) Goyette of Troy, NY, Bill (Colleen) Goyette of Albany, NY and Richard Goyette of Jasper, GA and numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion (Goyette) Bakken. Parents: Henry and Kaia Bakken. Siblings: Donald Bakken, Merlin Bakken, Shirley (Wendell) Abbott, Kathryn Swenson, and Muriel Bakken. Nephew: Alan Bakken. Brothers and Sisters-in-law: Janet Gazelone, Juanita Goyette, Rita Goyette, Linda Bakken, Duane Hanson, Garbiel Gazelone, Robert Goyette.
