LaVonne was born January 8, 1926, in Waukon, IA to Thomas and Florence O’Malley. Bonnie grew up and attended school in Waukon and Lansing and she really enjoyed playing basketball in high school. She often could catch a ride on the train in the morning to attend school each day. She helped on the farm after high school before taking a job in Illinois to help with the war effort. Bonnie married James Dougherty on June 12, 1945, in Oakland, CA. After they married, Jim and Bonnie lived for a short time in Illinois and then moved to Waukon, IA. When Jim took a job with Northwestern Bell, they moved to Decorah, IA. She worked at Fred Carlson, Co. in the office for many years. She was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America.

Bonnie was devoted to her faith, family, and friends, making rosaries and praying the Rosary daily. She enjoyed being with and helping with family get togethers, projects, cooking, playing games with grand and great grandchildren and each and every visit with relatives and friends. She always had a plate of her best to offer when anyone was at the door, welcoming and encouraging those around her. As her family grew up, she was at the sewing machine countless hours, she could make whatever was needed. She was an avid bridge player for more years than we can count and continued until this past year. She had so many talents and shared them with whomever she could throughout her life.
