George P. Mott, one of this city's old residents, beloved by a host of friends, passed away suddenly at his home on east Main street Sunday, Nov. 29, 1914. Death was due to heart failure. He had been in poor health about a year and had suffered an attack some months ago, at which time his life was despaired of.

George P. Mott was born April 15, 1850, at Lima, Rock county, Wis. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Mott. He came to this county in 1860. In 1871 he was united in marriage with Mary C. Jackson. To them were born two sons and one daughter. The sons, Richard and Harry, died in infancy. The daughter, Mrs. Cora Brown, lives at South Bend, Indiana. She, with her daughter, Marian, is here to attend the funeral.

On Dec. 14, 1890, Mr. Mott was married to Mrs. Sophia Hess, who survives. Their daughter, Ruth Celia, also survives. Mr. Mott was a horseman all his life, being engaged in the livery business and stage business. He resided for a short time in Des Moines and also at Perry, Iowa. Since 1884 he had lived in Decorah. He had made many friends in Decorah. Of strong character and of wonderful physical strength, he processed a big hearted good nature that endured him to all who made his acquaintance. The funeral was held this afternoon at the home at two o'clock. Rev. Lackland officiated and burial was made in Phelps Cemetery.

A sister of Mr. Mott, Mrs. A.D. Haskins of Perry, Iowa, and her husband are here for the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. G.W. King of Jamcica, Ia., also attended the funeral. The deceased's only brother, John, of Sioux City, was unable to be here.
