She was born in November 1928, at the family farm near Waucoma, Iowa to Kieron and Julia (Kruse) Burke. She attended schools in Waucoma until she met Ted Meyer, who relentlessly asked to share his life. They were married in June 1945, and lived on various farms in NE Iowa. In 1964 they purchased the “Johnson” farm and were delighted to “own a little piece of land”.

Together, they raised nine children: Kenneth (Patricia, deceased) Meyer. Hermitage MO. Jeanette (Douglas ) Exey Decorah IA. David (Mary) Meyer Camanche IA. Mark (Linda) Meyer Good Thunder MN, Dean (Elizabeth) Meyer Dallas TX, Roy (Jeanine) Meyer Lake Jackson TX, Julia (Douglas) Kroll Clive IA, Ann (Leonard, deceased) TenEyck West Point NE, and Patricia (David) Bell Johnston IA. She was blessed with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Agnes worked on the farm with Ted and the kids and managed the household duties. She was the glue who held her family together. With food at the center of many family events, she was intent on making sure there was plenty. Children and families came home for hash, watery syrup, and homemade waffles. After many years at home, she started a new role at Sunflower Day Care using her Early Childhood Education certificate from Luther College. Following Ted’s death in 1987, Agnes stayed on the farm for several years and bought a house “in town”.

For many years she was a member of St. Benedict’s parish, St. Martha’s circle and Catholic Daughters of America. She joined the Decorah Bobbers water exercise classes and enjoyed lunches with the birthday club and coffee club women. She was an avid seamstress, making clothes, mending clothes and quilts for her family to celebrate special events. In her later years she added an ipad to her skillset and enjoyed beating her family at Words with Friends.

Agnes is survived by her children, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, her sister, Margaret Steinlage (Ferdinand, deceased) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, a brother, Leo Burke (Agatha, deceased), a sister, Lucille Shatek (Edward, deceased), a daughter in law, Dianne Meyer and two great grandchildren, Sarah and Gabriel.

Everyone thinks they have the best mother, but we did!
