J. L. Scofield died at his home north of here Thursday, Aug. 13, after a lingering illness of erysipelas and bright’s disease. The funeral was held from the Centennial church, Rev. Wyatt officiating. The body was interred by the side of his wife, who preceded him to the great beyond about six years ago. A large number of neighbors and friends assembled to pay their last respects to the dead. E. E. Scofield, Maud and May survive their father. Mr. Schofield{sic} was a member of the A. O. U. C. and Degree of honor lodges and the lodges were well represented at the funeral. He was born in New York May, 1852. Came to Iowa when he was sixteen years old, and has resided here ever since.
