In the notice of the death of Mrs. Napolean Peard which appeared last week in these items a typographical error made the date of her marriage read Nov. 10, 1888. The date should have been Nov. 10, 1886.—Eds. Republican.}

Burr Oak was greatly grieved when, on Friday, the sad news came to us of the death of Lissa Porter-Peard at Lawrence, Kansas, July 29, after a brief illness of scarlet fever. The following was written by one who knew her well: Anna Melissa Porter, only daughter of the late James H. and Martha Porter, who for many years were honored residents of Burr Oak, was born here Sept. 24, 1859, and here grew to womanhood. In early life she joined the M. E. church, of which she remained a consistent member until called from the church militant to the church triumphant. On Nov. 10, 1888, she was united in marriage to Napoleon Peard who, with their only child Roger, now nearly 21 years of age survive. Though always in ill health she was the light of home, a faithful daughter, wife and mother, untiring in her efforts for others’ welfare, an unfailing friend, and wise adviser, and many could to-day bear testimony to help and comfort derived from her influence. The first few years of her married life were spent in Burr Oak, Decorah and Oelwein. Later for ten years a resident of New Hampton, where she endeared herself to many. For the past eight years her home has been in Enid, Okla., though recently she has passed much time in Lawrence, Kas., to be with her son who was attending university in that city. Mrs. Peard leaves two brothers, O. A . Porter of Superior, Wis., and Charles of Burr Oak. A woman of deep though unobtrusive piety, a kind heart and cheerful disposition, she leaves a deep void in the hearts of unnumbered friends. The funeral was held Sunday, Aug. 3, at the home of her brother Charles, Rev. Densmore, officiating clergyman, with interment in Burr Oak cemetery.
