Barbara M. Dostal died peacefully on August 11, 2022, surrounded by loving family, after a brief illness.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah with Rev. Donald Hertges presiding. Burial will be in the St. Benedict Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the Church on Friday morning.

Barbara was born January 21, 1932 the only child of Theodore J. Morrison and Grace (Matter) Morrison. She was baptized and confirmed at the Decorah Lutheran Church. She grew up in a lovely Arts and Crafts style home “on the flat” in Decorah.
Barbara attended Decorah Schools graduating from High School with the class of 1950. She was a majorette in the high school marching band* and developed many life-long friendships with her classmates.
On July 17, 1953 she married William G. Dostal at St. Benedict Church in Decorah, joining St. Benedict at that time. She and Bill lived in Cedar Rapids, IA where two sons, Mark and Wayne were born. The family moved to the East Coast in 1958 and lived in Springfield, New Jersey. While living in Springfield, Barbara attended Overlook Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated at the top of her class in 1965. Her parents, Grace and Ted along with her family attended the graduation all feeling much pride in Barbara’s accomplishments. She worked as a nurse and as a medical receptionist for over 35 years.
In 1971 her family moved back to Decorah. Barbara continued her career at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital. In 1984 William Dostal passed away. Barbara missed him very much. Her sons and daughters’-in-law admired her strength and independence during those years. Barbara later married Robert W. Buckton, a high school classmate in March of 1990. He passed away in February of 2003.
During retirement Barbara gave back to her community through volunteerism at the Decorah Public Library, the Winneshiek Medical Auxiliary, The Vesterheim Museum and the Public Schools.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Morrison in 1987, her father Ted Morrison in 1991, husbands Bill Dostal in 1984, and Bob Buckton in 2003.
Barbara is survived by 2 sons, Mark (Karen) Dostal of Custer, Wisconsin and Wayne (Tracy) Dostal of Decorah Iowa. Also by four grandsons, Graham (China) Dostal of Chicago Illinois, Robin Dostal of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Tyler Dostal of Decorah, and Cody (Sara Boyd) Dostal of Cedar Rapids and one great-granddaughter Calla Eloise Dostal of Chicago Illinois.
Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a caring special friend to all who were fortunate enough to know her. Many happy times and much laughter was shared while playing cards with the L.O.T.N. gals. She also enjoyed shopping, eating out, crossword puzzles and knitting. Her greatest, happy times though, were spent with her boys, their spouses, her grandchildren and her great-grand kid.
Barbara’s family sincerely thanks the staff at Winneshiek Medical Center for their expert care during Barbara’s illness. Also, very much appreciated is the care given by Donna and others at Loving Touch Home Care in Decorah.
