Louis Albertson, age 94, of Calmar, IA, died on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022, at Peace Lutheran Church, 745 County St., Ridgeway, IA, with Rev. Nathan Wicks presiding. Burial will be at Lincoln Cemetery with military rites.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Peace Lutheran Church and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Friday morning.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Howard County Regional Hospice or Lincoln Cemetery.

Louis Edward Albertson was born June 29, 1928, to Orlando and Florence (Wangsness) Albertson. He was baptized and confirmed at Calmar Lutheran Church. Louis attended rural schools in Winneshiek County and graduated Calmar High School in 1948. After graduation he started farming in the Calmar area. He was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korean War from November of 1950 until August 13, 1952. He received the Quilt of Valor in 2015. Following his discharge, he returned to farming.

On October 27, 1953, he married Norma Falck at Orleans Lutheran Church. To this union four children were born.

Louis enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, riding his John Deere Gator, and playing endless games of Rummikub. In his younger years he played 2nd base for a baseball team in Spillville. He had a special group of friends that traveled with him to many baseball games and several fishing trips in Minnesota and Canada. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. Louis was a member of the Spillville Legion, a board member of Winn Coop, a board member of Lincoln Cemetery, and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and served on the council.

Louis is survived by his wife Norma; children, Nancy (Larry) Gallagher of Mason City, IA, Elaine (Wally) Korth of Leland, IA, Ed (Lois) Albertson of Calmar, IA, and David (Norma) Albertson of Calmar, IA; grandchildren, Shelby (Chet Fox) Gallagher, Brandon (Ashley) Albertson, David (Melinda) Engelhardt, Kim (Travis) Hergert, Jason Gallagher, Kala (Chris) Burington, Katie (Jarad) Holzer, and Laura (Fiancé Alex Lothammer) Korth; 15 greatgrandchildren; and siblings, Ronnie Albertson and Debbie Lensch.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Roger Albertson, and Parnell Albertson.

The family would like to thank Howard County Regional Hospice and Ause Haugen Senior Services for their loving care and support of Louis.
