Linda Marlene Root, age 74, of Decorah, IA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 3, 2022, surrounded by her family.

Friends may greet the family from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday July 7, 2022, at Helms Funeral Home - 604 South Ave, Decorah, IA 52101.

A private family service will be held at another time. The Helms Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Linda was born December 16, 1947, in Decorah to Donald and Esther (Tveter) Stoddard. Linda grew up in Decorah and graduated in the Class of 1966. She was united in marriage to Michael Eugene Root on July 30, 1966. To this union two children were born. Daughter, Tracy, November 1967 and son, Kelly, March 1972.

Linda worked many years at Aase Haugen where she enjoyed her job and the many friendships she made with her co-workers. Linda enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends. Linda loved shopping, spending time reading and feeding the squirrels at Phelps Park. She also enjoyed lunch with friends and especially, her “Sistas”. Most of all, Linda enjoyed attending the many sports, dance, and school events of her grandchildren.

Linda was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.

Linda is survived by her husband: Mike Root. Children: Tracy (Dan Bohr) Thorsten, Decorah, IA and Kelly (Stephanie Burroughs) Root, Decorah, IA. Grandchildren: Ryan (friend, Taylor Numedahl) Thorsten, Decorah, IA; Connor and Kaelyn Root. Brother: Dean (Ben) Stoddard, Florida. Brother-in-law: Jeff Root, Naperville, IL. Niece and nephews: Stephanie (Mark) Henning, Dana (Tara) Stoddard, Jeremy (BJ) Stoddard. Her special dog: Cooper.

She was preceded by her parents: Donald and Esther (Tveter) Stoddard. Father and mother-in-law: Don and Vivian (Pritchard) Root.
