On Friday morning, Jan. 3, our town was greatly surprised to learn of the death of Mrs. Esther Kinyon. We knew of her dangerous sickness, but thought the crisis passed, and hopes of her recovery were entertained, at least to such a degree as to allow her to go to a hospital for treatment, but she was taken suddenly worse and only lived a few hours. Those who read Northern Canoe items of last week in this paper will notice her reference to a “green Christmas” and not 24 hours had passed after printing the same, before she “was not, for God took her.” Mrs. Kinyon was a good Christian woman, an earnest worker in the Sunday school. She was a member of the Advent church for many years, and in the absence of a pastor of that denomination her funeral was held in the M. E. church on Sunday, Rev. Densmore officiating. Esther Knight was born in Nanticoke, Ontario, April 30, 1845. Married to Lewis Carl Jan. 1, 1863, came to the farm home in Canoe township, this county, 1870, where Mr. Carl died in 1891. July 4, 1898, she married Henry Kinyon, who, with her two daughters, Lilly Purdy of Meade, Kas., and Mable Warn and a son Delfield Carl are left. She was a sister of Mrs. Robert Kennedy of Portland, Ore., also Mrs. W. C. Reed and Silas Knight of this neighborhood.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows the name spelled Kenyon. She is buried in Burr Oak Cemetery.
