Ruth Esther Lensing, age 92 of Calmar, IA passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at her home in Calmar.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
She was born on February 24, 1930, to Nora Belle Van Sickel and Phillip Earl Holcombe in Omaha, NE. She lived in Omaha and spent time with her mother’s family in Jennings, KS.
At the age of two, Esther moved with her mother to Schley, IA where they joined her stepfather, Clem Hyke and his five children. She went to a country school through 8th grade and worked the summers by helping on other farms or doing childcare. In 1944, she went to stay with her grandfather; Charles Van Sickel on the farm in Jennings, KS. While there, Esther attended two years of high school.
Esther married Roman Edward Lensing on November 5, 1947 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes, IA. Esther worked at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital for many years. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, sewing and above all spending time with her family who she loved so much. Esther was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and St. Aloysius Rosary Society.
Esther is survived by her children: Colleen Buechler, Winnebago, MN; Becky Yerrington, Calmar, IA; Ron (Connie) Lensing, Calmar, IA and Carl Lensing, Calmar, IA. Daughters-in-law: Bonnie Lensing, Caledonia, IL and Judy Lensing, Calmar, IA. Grandchildren: Candy Power, Cory Lensing, Ronnie Snyder, Roxanne (Eric) Roy, Robert Coonradt, William (Faith) Coonradt, Russel (Hanna) Yerrington, Jessica Yerrington, Tara (Tory) Jarchow, and Troy (Bobbi) Lensing. Great grandchildren: Preston, Trevor and Cameron Lensing, Roman and Halley Roy, Natasha, Stacia, Ckaiden and Ckeelie Coonradt, Samantha (Andy) Paap, Alexandria, Mark and Kara Yerrington, Zoe Yerrington, Keagan and Jordyn Jarchow, Brady and Maya Lensing along with several great-great grandchildren. Brothers: Lyle and Earl Hyke.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband: Roman Lensing. Her Parents. Children: Tom and Tony Lensing in 2017, William and Henry Lensing in 1971, twin daughters: Margie and Marie in infancy in 1961. Son-in-law: Dick Buechler. Great grandchildren: Steven and Joshua Snyder. Sisters: Neoma Miller, Lois Combs, Katherine Feuerhelm, Hazel Vaugn and Phyllis Giesing. Step siblings: Gladys Samec, Alice Praska, Mary Ernst, Glenn Hyke and Dorothy Marhoul.
