Maynard Hotvedt, age 79 of Decorah, IA passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022 after a long battle with COPD.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at the Glenwood Lutheran Church with Pastor Adam Starrett presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at the Glenwood Lutheran Church, 1197 Old Stage Road, Decorah and also after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Thursday morning.
Maynard was born on September 23, 1942 the son of Adolf and Mabel (Ness) Hotvedt in Decorah, IA. He was baptized at Madison Lutheran Church on November 1, 1942. Maynard graduated from Decorah High School in 1961. He was united in marriage to Rita Thompson on May 5, 1962 at the Glenwood Lutheran Church rural Decorah. To this union five children were born: Scott, Kristi, Brian, Robin and Dana. Maynard worked at Bruening Rock Products for fifty-four years before retiring in 2019. His favorite pastimes were watching old western movies and putting puzzles together.
Maynard is survived by his wife Rita. Children: Scott (Cheryl) Hotvedt, Calmar, IA; Kristi Mincks, Cresco, IA; Brian (Donna) Hotvedt, Decorah, IA; Robin (Richard) Davis, Decorah, IA; Dana (Sara) Hotvedt, Decorah, IA. Grandchildren: Allie and Walker Hotvedt, Nicole (Adam) Strand, Chase (Samantha) Hotvedt, Jade (Shawn) Kraft, Rashell Amos, Evan (Brittany) Brainard, and Lydia and Liza Hotvedt. Great grandchildren: Destinee Mincks, Mason and Tegan Quinn, Aiden Strand, Gracelynn and Annslee Hotvedt, Remington, Winston and Leah Kraft, Kathleen and Leo Amos.
He was preceded by his parents: Adolf and Mabel (Ness) Hotvedt. Father and mother-in-law: Burl and Evelyn (Leseth) Thompson. Granddaughter: Sarah Mincks. Sister-in-law: Linda Thompson.
