Sharon Riha, 61, of Ossian, Iowa was freed of all her pain on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. She will be greatly missed. Sharon Kay was born on May 21, 1960 in Decorah, Iowa to John and Arietha (Ihde) Riha. Sharon attended DeSales Grade School and graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1978.

Sharon loved the outdoors and animals. Many called her an “animal whisperer”. She was especially fond of her cows and cats. Sharon was able to identify her cows from a distance and they knew her as well, nudging her for a scratch on the head. Sharon spent most of her life helping her siblings milk cows, and she was the one in charge of caring for the new baby calves. Cross stitching angels and other Christmas ornaments filled her free time when she wasn’t working with the animals or in her garden. Friends and family, as well as, the many doctors, nurses and staff from numerous facilities have her handiwork in their homes and will have a blessed reminder of Sharon. Her love for flowers, especially orchids, and gardening was shared with others.

In 2015, Sharon was diagnosed with breast cancer. For most this would be a devastating situation, Sharon used it as an opportunity to meet new people and enjoyed the new adventures that awaited her. While going through chemo, surgery and radiation, Sharon never complained. She always accepted her challenge and found ways to help others.

Sharon is survived by her sister, Janet, of Ossian and her brothers, John and Ronald, also of Ossian. She also will be missed by her uncle and aunt, Artie and Vivian Ihde of Eldorado and many cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Arietha, and many aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 pm on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa with Rev. Bob Gross as the celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery in Ossian, Iowa.

Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Ossian, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
