After an illness of a little over six months, Ole K. Johnson of Canoe township died Thursday last from cancer of the stomach. Mr. Johnso was born in Norway June 22, 1851, and came to America with his parents in 1868. He was a son of John and Julia Olson and made his home with them in Hesper township. In 1874 he was married to Gertrude Anderson and the year following moved to Canoe township where they have since resided. Thirteen children were the result of this union, eleven of whom survive. The funeral was held Monday last, service at the home preceding public service at the Canoe (Hauges) church, Rev. Steenerson officiating. Mr. Johnson was one of the well known residents of his township and a man who had many friends.

After a lingering illness of several months from cancer of the stomach, Ole K. Johnson passed away on the 22d inst. All was done that could be done for him. He was at the hospital at La Crosse and Kansas City, and last at Rochester, but without any avail. He was a great sufferer, but through it all has been very patient. To a friend he said, “I am all right—I am at peace with God and Man” What a blessed state for everyone to be in at such a time! He was a good neighbor and a kind husband and father. He leaves an aged mother, a wife, five sons and six daughters, besides many relatives and friends. Our sympathy goes out to the bereaved ones, especially to his devoted wife who has cared for hm constantly for months, battling for her loved one’s life, but Death, the grim monster, has conquered.
