Edward M. Halse of 309 Leiv Eiriksson Drive died May 18 at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse at the age of 45. Mr. Halse, who owned and operated an excavation business, was a life-long resident of Decorah and Winneshiek County.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 21 at Decorah Lutheran Church with burial in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Pastor Alden H. Hovda conducted the memorial rites for Mr. Halse, and Otis Rustad, Earlin Arneson, Harold Cronin, Lloyd Wohford, Donald Halse and Robert Peterson served as pallbearers. Mrs. Stanton Lindquist was organist and accompanied the congregation as they sang hymns. Funeral arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home.

Mr. Halse is survived by his mother, Maggie Halse of Decorah; his wife, the former Elaine Kolaas; a son, Ronald Halse, and two daughters, Nancy and Patricia Halse, all at home; two brothers, Roger Halse of Decorah and Thomas Halse of Waterloo and two sisters, Mrs. Forrest Myers of Prescott, Ariz. and Mrs. Ronald Schroeder of Port Angeles, Wash.

Edward Halse was born August 15, 1927 in Decorah. He attended rural schools and Decorah High School and served with the U.S. Army in Alaska during the Korean war. He was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church, the VFW and the Decorah Fire Department.

He was married March 2, 1952 at Calmar Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mr. Halse was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Halse.
