Henry H. Szpejnowski, 49, of Calmar, official court reporter for Winneshiek County District Court for 15 years, died February 14 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Ottumwa following a short illness. Mr. Szpejnowski had been employed in Ottumwa at the time of his death.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 16 at French Funeral Home in Calmar with burial in the Calmar City cemetery. The Rev. Claude Jones conducted final rites. Casketbearers were Kenneth Miller, Lloyd Kolsrud, William Wegman, W.F. Heusmann, Dan Peterson and Emery Maschger. Honorary pallbearers werre Judge Joseph Keefe, Judge Charles Antes, Sam Swehla and H.D. Klammer.
Mr. Szpejnowski was born June 17, 1923 in Chicago. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the Halverson Glesen Post 266 American Legion in Calmar and the National Iowa Shorthand Reporters Association.
He is survived by his wife, the former Gertrude Thompson; two sons, David and Charles Szpejnowski, and a daughter, Mary Beth, all of Gary Ind. two brothers, Edward and John Szpejnowski and one sister, Mrs. Ray (Henrietta) Skonieczny, all of Chicago.
