Laverne Anthony Imoehl was the youngest son born to Frank and Angela (Hageman) Imoehl on July 4th, 1935. He passed away with his family by his side on November 5th, 2021, at 86 years. Laverne grew up on a farm near Festina, Iowa, and was a member of the graduating class of 1953 from Calmar High School. He entered the Army in 1956 serving in Korea until 1957. His rank was SP3 as a RTO (radio/telephone operator) with the 728th Military Police Battalion, Headquarter Company. He married the love of his life, Leonilla Kleve (Lee) on June 3rd, 1958, at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian. They farmed near Festina in the early years, and then purchased their first farm near Gunder, Iowa in 1964, where they raised their 11 children. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clermont. Laverne served on many boards over the years and was a member of the Elgin Lion’s Club. He was a farmer and a man of strong faith which was tested many times, but he never wavered.

When Laverne and Lee retired from farming in 1994, they built a home in Elgin. His hobbies in retirement included woodworking, golf, and vacationing with family and friends. He loved creating beautiful pieces of furniture and other wood crafts for family and friends. Laverne enjoyed playing cards and beating others in a competitive game of Jokers. In retirement, he decided that golfing was a great way to enjoy the great outdoors. The family can imagine that he already has a tee time set and a 7&7 in hand for Sunday-Funday. In fall after the harvest was complete, Laverne & Lee would travel to Branson, Missouri. It was his “happy” place. He loved sharing Branson with his family and friends. Laverne & Lee spent many winters in Brownsvillle, Texas. They met many great people there and have friendships that they will always treasure. He loved his kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren and wanted to make sure they all spent time as a family, together. The family will cherish the memories made for ten years at Jellystone Resort and the Imoehl Fest golf outings that they planned for them. He was very proud and passionate about his family and taught them that you should always have fun and enjoy life, as they will continue to do. Laverne always looked forward to sitting at the “Table of Knowledge”, his weekly coffee club. On April 22, 2014, he was privileged to be a part of the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight. It meant the world to him to be honored for his service.

He is survived by his wife, Lee of 63 years. His children, Kay (Gerry) Schmitt, Jeanne (Mike) Kruckenberg, David Imoehl (Sheila Kohls), Dale (Cheryl) Imoehl, Mary (Dan) Schott, Randy (Kay) Imoehl, Ron (Sherri) Imoehl, Leroy (Heather) Imoehl, Tammy Moser, Tina (Mike) Anderson; his brother, Nilus Imoehl, his sister, Corrina Steinlage; sisters-in-law, Anita Imoehl and Arlene Imoehl Wilusz; in-laws, Henrietta Bushman, John and Dorothy Mashek, Margaret Kleve; grandchildren, Michelle (Alex) Hertzke, Chris (Lexi) Schmitt, Marcus (Carly) Schmitt, Phillip Schmitt; Megan (Alex) Hangartner, John (Jess) Kruckenberg, Justin Kruckenberg (special friend, Meagan Dickson); Dillon (Leah) Imoehl, Dallas (Sabrina) Imoehl; Sarah (Ryan) Urbanek, Matt Imoehl, William Imoehl (special friend, Caroline Wanner), and Daniel Imoehl; Mitchell Schott, Jodi Schott; Tanner (Sydney) Imoehl, Thomas Imoehl; Madison, Brennan and Chase Imoehl; Jack and Katie Imoehl; Lexi (fiancé, Ben Dunt) Moser, Bailey (Ben) Martin; and Garrett (Rachel) Anderson, Cullen Anderson and great-grandchildren, Roy, Hayden, Bo, Walker, Ruby, Myles, Nora, Maren, Bryce, Paige and Brady and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Allen Roger; his parents, Frank and Angela Imoehl; his brothers, Ralph, Jerome, Merlin and his sisters, Valeria Lensing and Eleanora Franzen; father and mother-in-law, Arnold and Anna Kleve; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alvina Imoehl, Pete Franzen, Gordian Lensing, Gerald Bushman, Jim and Mary Kleve and Gene Kleve.

Well done, my good and faithful servant. Cheers to a life well lived!

The family would like to thank the staff at Winneshiek Medical Center, Dr. Scott Bohner, Gunderson Palmer Lutheran Health Center, Gunderson Palmer Lutheran Home Health & Hospice, the staff at Stoney Brook and Father Nick Radloff.

Memorials can be made to St. Peter’s Cemetery Fund, Camp Courageous, the Elgin Historical Society or an organization of your choice.

Visitation will be Monday, November 8, 2021 from 4-7 pm at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Clermont, Iowa and one hour before Mass at the church on Tuesday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at St Peter’s Catholic Church, Clermont, Iowa with Rev. Don Komboh as the Celebrant.

Interment with Military Rites will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Church Cemetery, Clermont, Iowa.
